The first geodesic dome was created in the 1920s by German engineer Dr. Walther Bauersfeld, but it was R. Buckminster Fuller who popularized this type of structure and was awarded U.S. patents for its design. One of Fuller's early models was first constructed in 1945 at Bennington College in Bennington, Vermont, where he frequently lectured. Fuller also constructed one of his Dymaxion Deployment Units on the Bennington College campus. It has since been removed. |
